Superfamily ONISCOIDEA Latreille, 1802
Compiler and date details
30 April 2005 - Gary C.B. Poore (Editor)
Introduction
Described species from seven oniscoidean families have been recorded from Australia. A species of Olibrinus Budde-Lund, 1913 from another, Olibrinidae Budde-Lund, 1913, has been reported from Barrow Is., WA (Dalens 1993). The genus also occurs at Heron Is., Qld (Green, A.J.A., this work). Males are needed for specific identification.
The species Australoniscus springetti Vandel, 1973b cannot be placed in a known family or genus. Schmalfuss (1983) synonymised Australoniscus Vandel, 1973a (type species Australoniscus alticolus Vandel, 1973a) with Nagurus Holthuis, 1949 (Trachelipodidae) and believed its second species belonged in another family, as yet undecided.
Diagnosis
Typically without pleopodal lungs.
