Introduction
Calder (1998) synonymised Metriorhynchus with the genus Porrostoma, and moved all species accordingly, Bocak (1998) resurrected the Metriorhynchus concept, but with a replacement name, Metriorrhynchus. Bocak et al. (2020) then returned species moved to the Porrostoma back to Metriorrhynchus. Kusy et al. (2022) has since transferred 11 Metriorrhynchus species back to Porrostoma.
Importantly, according to Kusy et al. (2022), many species assigned to Metriorrhynchus do not actually belong in the genus. They confirmed the placement of seven New Guinean species within the genus on the basis of their genitalia, and noted that many of the other species in the genus were described based on females, are unrelated to the porrostomine genera, or their types were inaccessible. As such, the relationships of these species could not be considered in their study and will need further examination.
