Type data:
Holotype QM G210849 (under rubble, reef crest, 14.vi.1992, wholemount), One Tree Island, Capricorn Bunker Group, southern Great Barrier Reef [23°30'S 151°05'E].
Paratype(s) QM G210848, 928-9, 211085 (under rubble, reef crest, wholemount and longitudinal sections), Heron Island and One Tree Island, Capricorn Bunker Group, southern Great Barrier Reef [23°27'S 151°55'E; 23°30'S 152°05'E].
Introduction
Newman & Cannon (1998) report that P. irretitus is often found in association with coralline algae or burgandy-coloured colonial ascidians; they believed that the colouration of this species makes it cryptic.
